A sigh of relief

The U.S mid-term elections were just over. It was a tight race between the Democrats and the Republicans in many states. Though the Republicans took over the House, Democrats had the Senate. Patty Murray (D)and Dave Reichert(R) won the elections from Washington State. Personally it did not matter to me who won. I am not a U.S. citizen, so i didnt vote. I am only relieved that there wont be any more negative campaigning to watch on TV. The ads were vicious and negative, not to mention depressing. Starting from a couple of months before, up until the day of the elections(including election day), the ads were aired and every now and then. There was no escaping them, they were on all channels. The opponents were seen spitting venom at each other while highlighting all the good things that they had done. It was a little unsettling for me watch all these ads simply because I was not used to watching election campaign ads on tv especially negative ones and that too so frequently.
TV campaigning has not yet become popular in India. In the rare occasion that I have seen a political ad on tv, it was always about a political party and not a single person. Also it was always positive. I have never seen a negative campaign on tv. A lot of negative campaigning goes on outside of the tv, in rallies and the entire face of the country is defaced with banners and posters hanging from every nook and corner where ever an inch of space is available. We Indians are used to that. Immune, indifferent and unfazed. But when some thing appears on tv, it captures every ones attention. It somehow seems more important, gets noticed. So when if all that we see on tv is negative, its takes a toll on one's mental health.  Its very depressing. One feels even more pessimistic about politicians( if that is ever possible ).
May be its just a matter of getting used to.  For now I am more than relieved not depress over venemous ads that have nothing to do with me or my family.
