Four Corners, in Utah is a unique one a kind place in the US. Its the only place in the entire country where four states - Utah, Colorado, Arizona & New Mexico - meet at a single point. I had never heard of it before. I came across this place while doing the research on places to visit in Utah. The day after visiting the Arches National Park in Moab, we decided to go to the Four Corners.

The lonely stretch of never ending state highway |

There it is! |
It was a hassle free but long drive through the desolate arid desserts of Utah. We loved it simply because it was nothing like Washington, which is lush green all year round. Though there is nothing wrong with that, it tends to get a little boring after a while, a change of scenery is always welcome. The stark contrast was probably why we were able to not only absolutely enjoy but also appreciate the scenery of scattered dry grass and bald red rock structures in the deserted highways of Utah & Arizona. The lonely state highway stretched far before us and it was easy to fall asleep at the wheel. Thanks to the iPod, we had access to hundreds of songs. This time around, we chose old Hindi songs, it was lovely. They make me strangely nostalgic. Music had been a major part of our entire vacation, being in places like these, long stretches of travel can be better surpassed with family, food & music.

Entereing New Mexico |
The Four Corners is located in a desolate area that looks like the middle of nowhere. We have to travel a short distance through New Mexico to reach there. A small population of Indian Tribes lives in the neighbourhood and makes its living by farming. Some of them have stalls set up near the four corners and they sell jewellery, semi-precious stones, indigenous art & weapons among other curios. There is nothing else near by - no shops, houses or businesses. We have to carry every thing we need with us in the car. We made sure we had water, food and lots of diapers before we started.
The concrete structure was built recently and looks neat. Construction work was still going on at another section. As the place gains more popularity, I think new additions will be added. The names of the 4 states are carved in metal at the center and in concrete too along with the symbol of each states. The flags of all the states are also placed at the respective corners. It was fun hopping from one corner to another while technically moving among 4 states with literally a hop-skip and jump. If we sit right at the center point, we are actually simultaneously touching 4 states.
It was a fun idea and a fun trip. On the way back we stopped at the Twin-Rocks restaurant at Twin- Rock city for dinner. The hot potato wedges were soooo yuummm, my mouth waters even at the thought of them.
All together a good day and we retired to Moab.
